It seems to frame the idea that "periods are solely a female issue" as equal to "periods are a human issue" - which it isn't (both in feminism and in general). Curtis reminds us not to forget injustices happening in countries stuck in tradition, where the patriarchy is still celebrated even now: male-only votes, underage and/or forced marriage, FGM, period poverty, education restrictions, reproductive rights, prejudice and violence against the LGBT+ community, among a shocking number of others. Often funny, sometimes surprising, and always inspiring, this book aims to bridge the gap between the feminist hashtag and the scholarly text by giving women the space to explain how they actually feel about feminism. The purpose of this book, I think, was to provide a wider-lens picture of feminism, showing women at all different stages of their feminist journeys.

The most cost- effective and practical ways to combat it are the education of girls, and women's reproductive rights. As a disabled black woman, the conversation with Lena Dunham in particular reminded me why I’m wary of (and ultimately stopped) listening to feminist content by white women. Reading the words of such powerful feminist activists, ones who push for change everyday through their writing and their art, is as inspiring as it is important. They had an extreme and quite scary tolerance for pain, and were distracting and beguiling for men ( Tell Him - Jameela Jamil, p. It is clear that there is no one route to feminism, and there is no "right way" to do it - people find their own path in their own way, and feel free to wear pink while doing so!However, from the way periods are described in some of these essays, I started to doubt whether I'd actually ever had a period or if I was just being stabbed by a ghost every month. I hope feminism can do this for me and you and the young women growing up in this climate, and for men - especially for men - who are not adept at embodying their feelings and their truth, and who need women to lead by example and give permission.

Tapi, dalam tulisan di buku ini, dijelaskan pula, memangnya mengapa sih kok wanita bisa sampai mendapatkan upah yang tidak sama dengan pria. A book of honourable intentions, but I’d recommend Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche’s Dear Ijeawele for highly practical feminist advice.

I loved Evanna Lynch's piece, "Cat Women," a series of musings on periods, feminism, and cat ladies, all in the context of a meeting with a casting agent. And "The Power of the Period" by Amika George was both an ode to that feminine miracle/curse and a plea for feminine hygiene products to be provided all women. Brilliant, hysterical, truthful, and real, these essays illuminate the path for our future female leaders. If you're going to speak from that place of authority, you should know what you're talking about and what you're contributing to the conversation ( especially if you're going to sell it for GBP 12.

Let’s hear from the teachers and students, how do we address complex issues of feminism and culture? I have always been a supporter of equality and have myself been on the receiving end of sexism and misogyny, but with this book my eyes were truly opened. Each examines what feminism means to that one person and the closeness or contradictions the individual feels and faces within the feminist movement.
