Only an embodied subject/object can be brought into interaction with another embodied subject/object to continue the play and fulfillment. The narrative reconstruction highlights the fact that stories of desire are stories of how we relate to ourselves and to others. The traditional discourses on sexuality (religious, predatory, respectful) are heteronormative and promote sex differences. Priority is ascribed to intersubjectivity and gender fluidity, not to genitality and sex differences.

In this analysis the discursive shift can be described as emancipation from a traditional predatory and respecting discourse. I’m more of a passionate top/vers guy, but if a hot guy — I mean the right guy came along, I’m willing to flip to the other side ;-). Play is a creative endeavor in which the “object” is sought in the other; it dissolves the binaries and is accepting of difference. We will get to the bottom of what this person wants from you or more importantly what they want you to do to them! The religious discourse has been marginalized, but probably refers to family values in the context of the moral reprehensibility of “premature” sexual behavior. In writing about desire meaning is produced through the selection and use of ideas embedded within the various discourses. Contrary to the exotic becomes erotic model, there was no relationship between measures of short hair normativeness (or non-normativeness) and age at which the men became sexually interested in short hair. They’ve had to admit their proclivities to themselves and others, examine their erotic desires, and become more open to finding others with whom they can sexually relate.

Erotic desire can be conceptualized as a whole-being intersubjective experience of pleasure and excitement under the conditions of perceived trust and security. For instance, I’ve had people in my office who have discovered that their partner is watching some kind of porn they find offensive, and immediately jump to “You’re disgusting” or “I should be enough for you! Palm trees swayed gently around us, and the setting sun painted the clear turquoise waters in hues of orange and pink. The unconscious motivation and experience of desire as an impulsive tension leads to “I” being replaced with “That”. Here desire is ascribed to the “conquering” male subject, and the woman is discursively positioned as its object. I examine such models in relation to a specific paraphilic interest: men's sexual excitement toward short hair on men. If we made more room for negotiation about our erotic desires, either upfront before we commit to a relationship or after we’ve been engaged in sex for a while, there would be a lot more happy couples. First, of course, I’d coach my clients to get comfortable with the sexual interest, then talk about it with their partner and try to negotiate it into the relationship.

Others will judge this and minimize the sexual desire by valuing monogamy over a sexual want and need. The ideological substrate of democratic discourses reflects the social, cultural and power dimensions of sexuality. This kind of agency is deemed difficult to attain in many socio-political and relational circumstances ( Diiorio et al.
