Gosling is an actor that I feel is a bit underrated in Hollywood, and seems to still be typecast as “the pretty boy”. Leto was simply not used as much as I was expecting, but the man can’t turn in a bad performance, so every time Wallace appeared on screen you were simply mesmerized.

It’s arguably, too, that the original film has somehow earned this more stately, more overtly cerebral second installment. As expected, 2K Digital Intermediate movies like Pacific Rim can benefit from HDR color/contrast regrading, but there would be no resolution enhancement. My only fear is that the film does leave it OPEN for a sequel and in this day and age I worry that Warner or some other studio head decides to milk the franchise and let the quality slip. Blade Runner 101 (HD 11:22) This is a collection of six mini-featurettes that look at the film's world and some of the design aspects. There is a potential upside to this gentle HDR approach, in that it perhaps helps explain how the film’s tricky and highly varied color palette always looks beautifully balanced and authentic.

Blade Runner 2049 captures that otherworldly sense of Blade Runner and in some respects it's better, if more straightforward than Ridley Scott's original.

Conversely, Jared Leto's enigmatic Niander Wallace is a human who is completely void of all humanity to the point that he is more robotic and soulless than the Replicants he creates.From the opening first scene, and the literal opening of an eye, you will behold the massive amount of detail to be found here in 4K, but more on that later. And with a noir narrative that trades in hints of everything from Chinatown to Angel Heart, reinterpreting the theme of what makes us human from the original, Blade Runner 2049 still has its own story to tell, and it's thought-provoking and brutal, tense and tender.

Interstellar (3/5) - combination of 35mm and IMAX 65/15perf film source with questionable resolution improvement.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s FANTASTIC to see Deckard come back to life, but the third act feels a bit too long at times, with Ford taking center stage for reasons unknown.

I would have loved a commentary track, some more production design features, but what's here is pretty good and I'm glad they included the three short film Prologues that were released prior to the theatrical run of the film. The management works very hard to make sure the community is running the best software, best designs, and all the other bells and whistles. I guess time will tell if the sequel becomes as revered and dissected as the original, but after this first viewing I am HUGELY impressed. So, fans can rest assured 50% of the original screenplay writing force is back here for this sequel. From what I have seen, iTunes recommends a 25Mbps internet link so with VBR we're probably looking at realistic video bitrates between 10-20Mbps compressed H.
