About this deal

I really enjoyed this book I didn't realise you had 12 layers of skin on your nose I bet that was really sore.

It is singularly unpleasant to be around (its owners break up and fight over who doesn't get to keep it), largely due to the fact that Boogie's one great talent in life is a hideous, nuclear-level flatulence and Wallington has to share a tent with it. By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. Not only does Mark Wallington's writing just reflect the mentality of every dog owner he gives such a rich characterisation to Boogie the dog that makes him just as relateable. I would have liked a bit more about Boogie and his misadventures, but all in all, it was a good read.

Mile Walkies, Mark Wallington, First published by Hutchinson 1986, my edition published by Arrow 1987. Three Points of the Compass dives into the history of a post box originally destined for overseas but instead found its way on to British streets.

It reads as a bit 'dated' but then that's also interesting, as it reminds me of how life was in England in the 70's (80's? THE BOOK Omnibus edition of Mark Wallington's two humour/travel classics featuring the much-loved Boogie.I would recommend this book to anyone that needs to escape to abit of comedy and simplicity and i can promise it wont fail to put a smile on your face. If choosing an alcohol brew kit for day walks, Three Points of the Compass is usually carrying a Toaks burner.

Boogie up the River' is about travelling the length of the Thames, from London up-river to its source. In the second book, I found Jennifer annoying and cruel - I hope that it is true just so she can read it and see what a bitch she comes across as. Three Points of the Compass sets out on a winter wander from London to Birmingham along the Grand Union Canal.Along comes Boogie, his mate's dog, who is used to London, is 100% Mongrol and prefers concrete to grass. It is the account of an (at first) inept young man walking the Southwest coastal path along with a singularly unattractive dog.

I read it on recommendation because I was - am - thinking of walking the same coastal foot path, although not with with a dog and not in one go like Mr Wallington. At first glance 500 Mile Walkies may seem a little ephemeral and lacking in observational muscle, however the author had a perceptive eye for what mattered most and makes light of what must have, at times, been a demanding walk. I have read and re-read this light hearted adventure, one of the best as far as easy reading goes this is the type of book that makes you casually wonder if your capable of walking the path yourself, and where you would borrow a dog from if you did decide to do this? This wouldn't make much of a traveller's guide but, what he does do and say is easy-going, well phrased and gently amusing.
