Nothing is as it seems in Square Enix's latest action adventure game, set in a crumbling world plagued by disease and dark, unrecognizable creatures. Good voice acting and character portrayal: This is one of those Japanese games that actually got voice over done right in the English version (Like Metal Gear Solid series); character emotions are strongly presented, and they sounded like actual human beings, rather than someone reading from a script.

With powerful allies and a mysterious book, NIER encounters things that will confound even the mightiest of warriors. This is a game that was playable and great when it was released and will still be 20 years from now. For every positive it has, there seems to be a corresponding negative, but overall the game seems to be better than the sum of it's parts. The game cuts to 1,312 years later (1,412 years in Replicant), where the protagonist and Yonah are living in a village built upon the ruins of an old town.Kainé's status as intersex caused some "commotion" in western territories, which is something the team did not actively intend.

It is revealed that the Shadowlord's true identity is the Gestalt form of the protagonist from the prologue; the protagonist the player has been controlling for the majority of the game is his Replicant. NIER might not the revolutionary title that it inspired to be, but it has some moments that make the downtime worth the effort. Each character has a very memorable personality thanks to the good VO, and you will get to like each character equally no matter who they are (Kaine is just great, liked her the moment she appeared, Emil is very likeable in many ways). Although its visuals aren't surely breathtaking and its gameplay doesn't excel in terms of depth, the game will in fact manage to guarantee a likable experience to any fan of the genre. The boss health bar is at the bottom, a minimap can be seen at lower right, and the top right contains bars representing the protagonist's health and magic. The story is compelling, the characters are very memorable and the music is the best i've ever heard in a game. Moreover, if the player wants to start a new game, they are unable to enter the same name chosen for the previous playthrough for the protagonist.

The game also changes perspective during different parts, including a Resident Evil like mansion where all colors fade to grey and with fixed camera angles, an underground lab with a top-down camera angle and maze like exploration and more. The event consisted of a game level in SINoAlice titled "Nier Replicant: Dream Under Missing Pages", with story from Yoko Taro, and ran for the first time from June 22, 2021 to July 6, 2021. The gameplay borrows elements from various video game genres, occasionally switching between them and the main role-playing-based gameplay. The cast, consisting of a loving father as the main character, and his companions; a talking and flying book; a young boy with mystical powers and origin; and a foul mouthed young girl, makes for an oddly lovable ensamble of characters, who are all very well written and greatly voiced, making then truly feel alive.
