About this deal

I did find the Elvis character almost overwhelmingly irritating, but like a good pantomime villain it makes for more cheers when things are evened out at the end.

Several templates and tools are available to assist in formatting, such as reFill ( documentation) and Citation bot ( documentation). This book shows a variety of fun, quirky and often distasteful characters, all of which have some form of personality trait which can be related to by every reader.

He wants to be the hero of a school play, but everyone criticises him for his appearance and voice, and the role is instead given to Ruskin's window-smashing former friend Elvis Cave. As well as books and plays for adults, Philip has written many other books for children including Krindlekrax (1991), winner of the Smarties Prize and the WH Smith, Mind-Boggling Books Award, Kasper in the Glitter (1994), nominated for the Whitbread Prize, and Scribbleboy (1997), shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal. Winston Splinter: Ruskin's father, a fired zookeeper who is always complaining and saying "It's not my fault! As the children get older it can be used in guided reading sessions or for children to read independently. My wife is a teacher (ages 9/10) and she often talks about the importance of readable books, citing this as a good example.

Unfortunately for Ruskin, he did not perform to his best and so Elvis got awarded the part of hero for the school play. He studied painting at St Martin's School of Art and by the time he graduated had exhibited widely throughout Europe and written his first novel. But for newly-fluent readers of about eight and up, who like action-based books, this could be a good choice. However, the text became out of print due to Ridley leaving Faber and Faber in 2005 as a result of their refusal to publish his controversial stage play for adults Mercury Fur. Three stars as i only read this book due to nostalgia etc and I love the story but it didn’t have the same magic about it that it had when I was 8/9 years old.

Characters in Philip Ridley’s stories usually have catchphrases, and these can become refrains to be joined in with when the books are read aloud.

Plenty of tension and suspense throughout with likeable characters who will capture the class' interest and mark out the whole class read as a time of the day to look forward to. But beneath the dark bricks and cracked pavements of Lizard Street lurks a monster: the mysterious Krindlekrax. Cave: Elvis' parents who own the Dragon and the Golden Penny pub and seem to do nothing about their son's window smashing. It was also selected by children aged 9 to 12 as the winner of the 1993 WH Smith Mind-Boggling Book Award.
