About this deal

Taken from the same session 'A Woman Of The World' was also a contender for the show's theme tune but ultimately became the jaunty deep cut seen here, proving that Hannon is no stranger to recycling creative ideas across his career. To mark the release, The Divine Comedy play five nights at the Barbican in London in early September and then later the same month, five nights at the Cite de la Musique in Paris. That’s the guy who does the Father Ted theme,” I thought to myself, knowing little else of his musical output at that point. I listen and content myself knowing that someone out there is still carrying the mantle of Walker’s style.

Also a scratch right at the beginning of the side to dead wax that creates a nasty pop for the first five or six seconds. The LP is heavyweight black vinyl in a gatefold sleeve accompanied with photos, credits and Neil's liner notes. Casanova is Hannon at his best, showing his range, his talent, and his inventive mind as he takes in the world around him.Il faudra beaucoup jouer à cache-cache entre l'éprouvante démesure du son et l'étroitesse des sentiments trop humains (lubricité, jalousie, rancœur, etc. I had this on a TDK cassette and played it over and over flying from London to Japan on the way to Australia in early 1997. The breadth of quality is wide here, every moment given due consideration from the band and worth a thesis of critical analysis. First released in 1996 it explored and dissected a world of casual affairs, loose morals and a thousand anxieties in between. Take the aforementioned “Songs of Love” for example; Hannon pokes fun at young couples prancing about in front of him with absolutely no regard for how miserable he is.

Singles Something For The Weekend, Becoming More Like Alfie and The Frog Princess became chart hits and airplay staples while an alternate version of Songs Of Love became the theme music for legendary Channel 4 sitcom Father Ted. I promptly went out and bought Scott 1 – 4, and over the following years I consumed about everything I could in the Scott Walker universe. But hearing it also reminds me to be thankful that the show put me onto one of Northern Ireland’s best musical exports: The Divine Comedy. Casanova and A Short Album About Love will be performed on the 3rd Sept in London and the 26th Sept in Paris.L'épreuve de force pour le délicat Neil Hannon : recentrer son délirant opéra comique sur sa petite personne, retrouver au cœur du maëlstrom paranoïaque qui lui sert de dispositif guerrier un peu de la vérité d'une jeunesse ordinaire. I may be ready to leave Father Ted behind in the vault of nostalgia in my mind, but Casanova I will keep coming back to – and not just for “Songs of Love”. This is a brilliant album, it features The Divine Comedy's best songs such as Something for the weekend and Songs of love which was the theme tune from Father Ted. It was certified Gold in the UK in July 1997, aided by the release of the album's first single, " Something for the Weekend", which reached No. As his voice rose in the song, my heart opened and so did my mind; I had never heard music anything like this before.

And ultimately that’s why Casanova is such a rewarding album for me: nostalgia, for both my younger self watching Father Ted, and my present self remembering the musical oeuvre of Scott Walker. Jeremy Lee of ABC News considered that this record brought Neil Hannon "closer to the orchestral pop sound he'd been dreaming of. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. The program was devised by The Divine Comedy, and was produced in our London studios by Darren Allison.Like I imagine many others did, I found The Divine Comedy through the Irish comedy series Father Ted. Thanks to orchestral arranger Joby Talbot, Hannon sounds truly like a timeless icon here, and that that icon is Scott Walker makes the album all the more enjoyable. Perhaps Hannon is poking fun at himself and the love-song-writing community, but he still takes his advice to heart – something that helps distinguish him from other artists. The CD comes with a booklet of photos, credits and extensive liner notes written by Neil covering the context and inspiration behind the album and its songs.

Casanova is the fourth studio album and features the singles: Something For The Weekend, The Frog Princess and Becoming More Like Alfie, plus Songs Of Love (the theme from Father Ted). Also included is the iconic 'Song Of Love' - a reworking of the tune originally written for the Channel 4 comedy 'Father Ted'. Seen here in a more stripped down version and with a beautiful set of harmonic vocals playing blissfully over the harpsichord melody it's certainly one of the highlights of the album.
