About this deal

You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. The Hunter Gets Captured…”, while anticipating Debbie Harry’s future work as a jazz singer, rounds off the record nicely, flashing a light on its undercurrent themes of life as adventure / race / bush warfare. English Boys" is Harry and Chris Stein's melancholy tribute to "those English boys who had long hair", the Beatles, recorded the year after John Lennon's assassination in New York City, describing the innocence and idealism of the 1960s.

These remasters both included the 12'‘ extended version of War Child (incorrectly spelt “Warchild” on the 1994 release) as its only bonus track. There are many pop culture references and then modern issues mentioned throughout the album, such as The Beatles being referenced in “ English Boys” in response to John Lennon's death and military conflicts in Cambodia and the Middle East being referenced in “ War Child. The fun, new wave, late seventies party disco vibe of their earlier albums has given way to some sort of gloom which for the most part doesn't entertain as much as it could.

However, there is no denying that the songs on _The Hunter_ lack the punch and bite of earlier efforts. The song opens with the sound of screaming monkeys, then the synth kicks in, and finally the killer drums. The high amount of reverb plus the lack of general sharpness makes this shit sound too airy and distant for this kind of music.summoning the lush, exotic imagery of jungles and desert isles, with all of their virile, teeming abundance.

For Your Eyes Only”: a cunning stylistic amalgam that could fit nicely among Parallel Lines’ reinventions of ’60s pop. There are exceptions: Jimmy Destri’s “Danceway” is an organ-driven raver that rocks out to a rope-skipping beat, and Debbie Harry assays a sweetly backward-glancing vocal on “English Boys. Orchid Club” summons you with tribal drumming that commences low, like something heard downriver, and then gets louder, as if you’d chanced upon some weird fertility rite. The album concludes with a cover version of Smokey Robinson's " The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game", originally recorded by the Marvelettes in 1967.Little Caesar" is a strange little ditty, but I really have a soft spot for it because it's so unique and quirky. So Chris and Debbie took a gamble in prioritizing her solo career over the band and they lost badly.

If Blondie kept up the same sense of experimentation and intrigue as "Orchid Club" for the duration of _The Hunter_, it may be hailed a gem or one of their most interesting works. Standout songs such as Dragonfly, Danceaway, and English Boys are as close to the classic Blondie sound as they can ever get. I adore the story, it's about a woman trying to play games with a man, and the woman ends up getting "played" by the man. Debbie's lyrics on "The Beast" are so snarky and biting, I love that side of her songwriting: "For the first time in my life, the bouncers would greet me/the doormen would escort me/managers adored me.The producers of the film, however, favored a track composed by Bill Conti and Michael Leeson and asked Blondie to record that song instead. I love the dark simplicity of the final track, "The Hunter Gets Captured By the Game" which is a cover written by Smokey Robinson (performed by The Marvelettes).
