Owatrol Shed and Fence Paint can be applied by brush, roller or spray and can be used on vertical and horizontal timber. We have painted our fence several times over the past few years using various water based stains from very good brands but found the paint never weathered well at all. On smooth timber I had decent results with both Ronseal fence life plus range and Cuprinol Ducksback despite the Cuprinol Ducksback I used not being recommended for planned finish timber. Remember, it is always better to overestimate how much paint you will need as having some spare can be handy for any touch ups. Imagine I had amazing Indian Sandstone or similar 😀 No amount of protective sheeting would have saved me in time! Rub down previously gloss painted surfaces with fine waterproof abrasive paper and rinse thoroughly. Single coat paints tend to be thicker and dry a little slower, but the best ones are still showerproof within a couple of hours.

There really isn’t a ‘best fence stain’, but there are a few solid options out there that we would recommend.
