Further books illustrated by Axel include Room on the Broom, Stick Man, Zog and The Smeds and the Smoos – all of which have been made into much-loved animated films by Magic Light Pictures. The books are still better than most on the market and are sturdy, easy to wipe clean and fun to read with their ‘open and see’ sections but the author really could have done better with the wording, it’s like a GCSE attempt at writing a rhyming poem in some points. The books are wonderful, interactive in a variety of ways, are inclusive/diverse with a variety of subjects. Axel is the illustrator of wonderful novelty, gift and poetry books for Macmillan, such as Fish Who Dream of Trees (Two Hoots) and the bestselling The Bedtime Bear , The Tickle Book and Mother Goose's Nursery Rhymes – and of course, he is the illustrator of some of the world's best-loved picture books, including modern classics The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo's Child , which together have sold over 17 million copies worldwide. Lift the flaps and join in the fun with Mole's Spectacles, a brilliant story in the bestselling Tales from Acorn Wood preschool series by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, creators of The Gruffalo.

She was the UK Children’s Laureate 2011–13 and has been honoured with a CBE for Services to Literature. Her other books include The Hospital Dog illustrated by Sara Ogilvie, The Christmas Pine illustrated by Victoria Sandøy and the hugely successful What the Ladybird Heard adventures illustrated by Lydia Monks. More lift-the-flap adventures from Acorn Wood: Cat's Cookbook, Squirrel's Snowman and Badger's Band .

In a nutshell, mole loses his glasses, can’t find them, becomes worried, still can’t find them so then becomes sad, is offered comfort by sweets, then finds his glasses and everything is fine again. Of course losing glasses may very well be a worrying and sad time, but must this be presented as the default response for a child learning about this scenario? With sturdy flaps on every spread and rhyming stories that are a joy to read aloud, Mole’s Spectacles is the sixth story in the bestselling Tales from Acorn Wood series, which features Fox’s Socks, Postman Bear, Rabbit’s Nap, Hide-and-Seek Pig, Cat’s Cookbook and Squirrel’s Snowman.

You can read about more adventures from Acorn Wood in other titles from the series such as Cat’s Cookbook and Rabbit’s Nap. What if my glasses were never found - am I supposed to feel worried and sad and comfort eat for all time? As always with Julia Donaldson, this book has a funny and bouncing rhyming text, making it great to read aloud at home. On my next visit on the 1st May she was able to tell parts of the story because of frequent reading. Mole’s Spectacles is the newest title in their lift-the-flap board book series, ‘Tales from Acorn Wood’.

When Fox loses his socks in the “Fox’s Socks” book in the series, he isn’t portrayed with the same worry or sadness. More lift-the-flap adventures from Acorn Wood: Cat’s Cookbook, Squirrel’s Snowman and Badger’s Band.
