The first thing we need to talk about is the absolutely jam-packed box of miniatures that is the Kill Team Octarius set itself – you get a stack of things inside the heavy box! This means that if you are suffering from heavy casualties and are heavily outnumbered it could be that your entire force manages to dig in and fire some desperate overwatch as a valiant last stand, which is an interesting balancing mechanic. If the Defender scores 3 or more VPs from Security Tac Ops during this battle, they gain 1 additional Requisition point. Your other ranged damage dealer is the Sniper Veteran , who does exactly what you’d think – their long-las may only have a 3/3 damage profile, but its critical hits deal 3 mortals.

The Attacker then selects one of these forces: that force has been lured away by a ruse and the operatives in it will not start the battle on the killzone, but will arrive later during the battle. As a massive fan of the Death Korps of Krieg, I couldn’t wait to get these guys built and painting as soon as possible and I have to say they are absolutely outstanding models. Next up is the Kill Team sprue – this contains movement gauges marked with symbols for ease of play during your games of Kill Team – don’t worry, this isnt some bespoke measuring system however – each of the facings also relate to inches with pips along the edge of each template marking these out.

Also included in the box is a full supplement about the Octarius system – we see a lore section giving us the story so far about Octarian War that I believe we will see play out over the next few months in 40k supplements – Essentially, Inquisitor Kryptman had the idea that the best way to deal with the Orks and Tyranids in that region of space was to draw a hive fleet towards Ork inhabited planets – the plan being that they would destroy each other and thus save humanity. This durable boards feature different artwork on each side and can be combined with other gaming boards to create battlefields of any size. Killzone Octarius is a scenery expansion set for Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team, comprising a range of Ork terrain pieces to populate Killzones. For 2EP, a model can take a Trench Shovel to dig a trench before the game, then benefit from Light Cover wherever they are until an enemy gets right up on them or they move for any reason. It’s also easy to see how this might tie into future 40k campaign settings (where factions are defined in advance), and how it might be used to re-introduce older teams such as the Gellarpox Infected or Elucidian Starstriders (at least, we hope to see them show up again somewhere – those are beautiful models!Finally after deployment there is the scouting phase where essentially you pick from Fortify, Infiltrate and Recon each having a different benefit but each also beating a different choice as in rock, paper scissors. While assembling the orks, I waffled emotionally from feeling they were the worst GW models I've worked with to feeling they were quite cleverly done. At the end of the battle, if you control one or more Refined Fuel objective markers, you score an additional 3VPs. in our review, there’s a second, rather hefty, book included in the new box and that’s the Octarius Campaign book. Of course, guardsmen can’t just shoot at their enemies, they also need to hold the line against anyone who’s able to move across the table.

At the end of each Turning Point, the Defender scores 1 Victory point for each of their Spy operatives that are on a Vantage Point of a terrain feature that is wholly within their drop zone (to a maximum of 3VPs per Turning Point). The plastic Krieg kit is a lot more varied than the resin ones from Forge World and give you access to a lot more weapon options than those currently available – just check out that Krieg sniper! The Octarius book provides nine Narrative Play missions to choose from, and all of them use the Octarius Killzone terrain in various layouts, and they really take advantage of the new terrains’ ability to be fit together in different ways and form a single, large building. MISSION RULES Ruse: After the Defender has selected their kill team, they must divide their kill team into two forces, with as equal a number of models in each as possible. SCANNERS [2EP]For each operative in your kill team that is equipped with scanners, you can, before setting up any of your operatives during deployment, select one Concealed Deployment marker on the killzone.This box contains a ton of really nice looking Orc terrain and a double sided game board, perfect addition to my Warhammer terrain collection and it feels like I got a lot in this box.
