About this deal

Kelly turned her face up at Grey with a look of such naked vulnerability that Grey’s heart ached a little. Grey and Ethan’s relationship feels genuine in its messiness and complications, and Ava Wilder’s breathtaking depiction of their highs and lows had me totally invested in their fate.

Besides the deliciously well executed fake-dating, How to Fake it in Hollywood delivers a raw, character-driven and heart-touching read. How to Fake It in Hollywood is a fresh, witty, high-emotion story with compelling characters and stylish backdrops. It's not your typical fake relationship romance, and that's perhaps what held my attention in those darker moments.I truly cannot think of a single thing to regret of 2023, which makes stepping into 2024 a bigger year of hope and growth for myself. Wilder’s cinematic prose brings Grey and Ethan to life, and she sets their raw, sensitive love story against an alluring portrait of Hollywood glamour. Wrapping a simple bow on the story would’ve been an incredible disservice; by the end, I really enjoyed seeing the entire arc that these two characters went on, and I loved the book as much at the end as I had at the beginning.

Thanks to NetGalley UK and Headline Eternal for sending me this advance copy in exchange for an honest review. What I loved most about this book were the positive female relationships (ex-wife and girlfriend don’t hate each other! I can excuse insta love, boring build up, and an unbearably dumb heroine, but I draw the line at deadbeat dads. He doesn’t think this game relationship nonsense will work, but he changes his mind once he meets/talks to Grey and realizes she’s a lot more savvy than her age belies.

It’s a fake relationship trope which I love but there’s not enough character development and growth here for me. It was something that I never thought I'd do, or something that I would hold off on for a few years yet. In a desperate attempt to keep her career afloat, Grey Brooks agrees to her publicist’s scheme…to fake a love affair with disgraced Hollywood heartthrob, Ethan Atkins, who also needs the publicity, but for very different reasons. They both made plenty of mistakes throughout the book, but neither was an unlikable character by any means. I liked the tension between her and Ethan even tho it was more insta-lovish with both of them trying to stay away from each other.

You know it’s only a matter of time until they give in to their attraction, but there’s more meat to this story than just that. As I'm slowly making my way through my backlist of NetGalley arcs, I saw two of my favorite narrators were attached to this project, so I decided to treat myself by using an audiobook credit and listen to this one with my earballs, which was the right choice, my friends.A Little Too Long Towards the End—There is a very important shift in the third act but for some reason, it made things feel overwritten. I couldn’t put it down; I was staying up late to see what would happen next, and picking this book up was my first thought in the morning. Ethan Atkins was an A-lister, mega-star who recently became somewhat of a recluse since the death of his friend, followed by his very public divorce. Okay, the premise: A talented Hollywood starlet and a reclusive A-lister enter into a fake relationship .

Told in chapters alternating between her and him, this tale jumps right into the action in the first few pages when the two are recruited for a PR stunt by their mutual publicist. She was recently released from her tv series, her boyfriend broke up with her and she’s trying to find roles that are more “mature”. It might get a little messy between them but I liked how things resolved; the grovelling and acceptance, and the little peak into their future too.

I deeply felt sad and hardly breathed after the author threw the entire angsty drama bomb on my lap! this would've been better if it was enemies to lovers, or friends to lovers, or if they had more awkward/funny/embarrassing interactions of idk, just something to spice them up. faking a love affair with a disgraced Hollywood heartthrob who needs the publicity, but for very different reasons. In any rehearsal setting, no matter how casual, an actor ALWAYS asks for their scene partner’s consent to get physical. I am not an expert about addictions, not even close, but I think it should have been addressed way earlier, and in a different way.
