About this deal

The new restoration is also on Paramount Plus but unlike the blurays the first 9 seasons are cropped to 16:9. Perhaps that's just me, but I don't mind something like The Dick Van Dyke Show on Blu-Ray that has been widened up a bit, as long as we're not adding space to the sides at the expense of things that we were always meant to be able to see at the bottom and top of the frame.

And I think you underestimate the following if a sitcom such as this, Friends, Frasier, Cheers, these shows easily out performed Star Trek TNG so this whole notion that they don't justify the cost because they are not as big, whatever if anything it only proves that if Star Trek TNG can be done on Blu Ray anything can because it did not have no where near the ratings as most big name sitcoms.

Unlike Seinfeld however, widescreen Frasier (at least the new 4K ones of Seasons 1-9) are proper transfers, with more details on the sides and removing only a little from the top and bottom, curated per scene and per episode to not remove anything important. A good example of when it's distasteful was the Bewitched comparison in one of these threads a while back, where Elizabeth Montgomery's legs are cut off in the widescreen screenshot with nothing of worth gained in exchange.

When he's not dealing with his listeners' problems, he's getting caught up in disputes involving his retired police detective father, Martin (John Mahoney), his father's physical therapist, Daphne (Jane Leeves), his younger brother, Niles (David Hyde Pierce), his radio show producer, Roz (Peri Gilpin), and his father's mischievous dog, Eddie.According to IMDB Frasier was shot on 35mm film with Mitchell BNCR and Panavision Cameras and Lenses.

I think it relates to them switching between a different film format, but I could be wrong, it sounds to me like a general move in the industry around this time in the late 90s. In this specific shot, sacrificing a huge chunk of Eddie in the shot is the wrong artistic choice, here. With the X-Files, it was Seasons 1+2 that had this halfway-house approach, Season 3 onwards was pretty much a straight expand. Not long after the Bluray came out the HD versions popped up on P+ but last time I looked they were still 4:3 for seasons 1-9.

Disfrute de los momentos más memorables de la serie, como la incómoda visita de Sam "Mayday" Malone (Ted Danson retoma su papel de Cheers) en The Show Where Sam Shows Up, Niles defendiendo el honor de su adúltera esposa en un duelo de esgrima en An Affair to Forget y el emotivo final de la serie, Goodnight, Seattle. Frasier is one of the classic Sitcoms of its era, and Paramount has certainly done it right for this Blu-ray release. Alas, CBS disappoints again with episode titles only printed on each disc label, so finding favorite episodes won’t be easy. Marching On To Season Two (480i, 5:59): Further building the main character dynamics between Frasier, Niles, and Martin.
