The 1905 recipe that I use suggests giving the dough 8 or 9 'turns', but I usually stop after 6 turns.

The recipe given here is the Lizzie Collingham version first related via William Sitwell in The Telegraph. This may affect nutrition and allergen information therefore you should always check product labels and not rely solely on the information presented here. In the 1950’s the Bath Oliver biscuit recipe passed to James Fortt and the Fortt’s Original Bath Oliver was born.

But when I was on holiday in Bath nearly four years ago, I had my morning coffee in the Pump Room every day, where I ate a Bath Bun and also drank the spa water.

In the event of any safety concerns or for any other information about a product please carefully read any instructions provided on the label or packaging and contact the manufacturer. United Biscuit and its subsidiary appears to be toying with this staple food, and needlessly leaving our biscuit’s future hanging in the balance. Bath Buns are large, round, sweet, very rich buns that were originally topped with crushed caraway seed comfits. The coachman made a fortune from making them and, after various bakers competed for their production in the 19th century, the recipe was passed to a James Fortt. Yes, there are crackers with thyme and black garlic and peppercorns and coriander and five spice and infused, smoked Jasmine tea.

A little like a mild Brie, Bath Soft Cheese has a soft white rind and a gorgeously gooey, creamy centre, perfect for spreading on crackers (or even melting on pasta). As it stands, there is a small group of us, lucky enough to be able to shoulder the burden of this small project.Pladis says a staff shortage at its factory in Aintree, Liverpool, meant not all brands could be baked for a while. Indeed, Dr Oliver was a controversial figure, described by one of his critics as “a most inveterate infidel till a short time before his death”.
