The plot line I guessed relatively quickly and I think this was part of the frustration with the slow pace. After the reasoning behind Hanna and Jack's daughter, Cait, being a bratty adult child is revealed I liked her progression into a more mature adult. She is also the author of Just One More Day and One Day at a Time, the moving memoirs of her childhood in Bristol during the 1960s. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. She has such a beautiful, infectious smile; her eyes shine with humour and kindness; her skin is lightly freckled and smooth.

It takes a big turn in the 2nd half of the book, but turns out that some people DID see it coming because I figured out the twist early :) I liked the twist and the 2nd half of the book better than the first half, but I just wasn’t that surprised by anything that happened and some of it seemed pretty unrealistic. The characterisation is excellent, although none of the characters are particularly likeable, and I didn’t connect or warm to any of them.

This story was very interesting, especially because the husband of one of my colleagues actually was “Riona”-like. The original Harper Brothers Company was established in New York City in 1817 and over the years published the works of Mark Twain, the Bronte Sisters, Thackeray, Dickens, John F Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. It's almost a paraphrase of the title and that's because it's a very cleverly crafted plot, something I've not read the like of before. As usual in my reviews, I will not rehash the publisher's synopsis, but instead recommend that you read this for yourself!

The plot is relatively easy to guess half way through, but nonetheless good story, good characters and an unusual premise. Although the narrator gave it her all and read it well, it's a shame that the main characters are soo unlikeable.
