About this deal

Cedric and Nicholas were mixed up in scientific intrigue and elixir-of-life nonsense, making Wrexford’s knowledge and knife-edge intelligence key to murder’s solution. Penrose is excellent at conveying the details of early 19th-century science and experiments with electricity. Charlotte has just learned that her dear cousin, one of the few people who accepted her as she was back in a day she hasn’t yet revealed to Wrex, has been accused of murdering her other dear cousin – his twin brother. Despite this newfound complexity, Wrexford and Charlotte are determined to track down the real killer.

in Graphic Design, Andrea fell in love with Regency England after reading Pride and Prejudice and has maintained a fascination with the era’s swirling silks and radical new ideas throughout her writing career. in Graphic Design, Andrea fell in love with Regency England after reading Pride and Prejudice and has maintained a fascination with the era's swirling silks and radical new ideas throughout her writing career. Andrea Penrose masterfully weaves the numerous plotlines of Murder at Kensington Palace into a scintillating whole. In the end, the most winning aspect of Penrose’s wonderful series is the conclusion Charlotte and Wrexford come to together and apart, that love is primary, makes life worth living, and deserves our greatest care and protection. This is the third in a series, I haven't read the previous two but had no problems getting to know the characters in this book and I adore them especially the weasels and Sheffield. This is my first foray into this historical crime series and I found it easy to pick up the threads. Rating 7: An all too familiar chain of events really crippled a story that once again had a good mystery at its heart.

This time murder falls at Charlotte’s door after she and Wrexford learn of the brutal murder of Charlotte’s cousin, a wealthy and powerful young man. Then moments after she does so, when she is rescued, the only comment made about her bizarre attire is an observation by a cop that she is wearing men’s boots.I have also listened to the audiobooks of this series (borrowed from the library), and they are excellent. I like the slow build of the relationships in the books, not just with the lead characters but with the supporting house staffers, the relations, and the police. It’s maybe 12 for Raven and 10 for Hawk and they are Oliver Twisting by night and learning Latin by day. Wrexford and Sloane must unravel secrets within secrets—including a few that entangle their own hearts—when they reunite to solve a string of shocking murders that have horrified Regency London.

For example in one of the final scenes - spoiler alert - the heroine, dressed as a man, is told to strip off her britches and shirt and put on what is described as a knee-length linen shift. Oy, as if I need another historical mystery with romantic elements to follow, but this cross-genre is appealing to me … so, here I go again with Andrea Penrose’s Wrexford and Sloane Regency-set, slow-burn romance and mystery series. And then the tension flaring with the deep love they have for each other, yet unspoken and dormant as it is: ” ‘Without you, I would have given up long ago. It's unfortunate that she's a major character, because I like so many other characters in the books. Their investigation leads them on a dangerous chase through Mayfair’s glittering ballrooms and opulent drawing rooms, where gossip and rumors swirl to confuse the facts.

After completing a delightful series of Deanna Raybourn novels on Audible (the Lady Julia and the Veronica Speedwell series) I decided to try my luck with Andrea Penrose. Or could the motive be far darker and involve the clandestine scientific society that claimed both brothers as members? Supposedly in the early 19th century, the author put some effort into getting the period right, but sometimes makes a major gaffe. On top of that bad news; the accused of the gruesome crime is none other than the victims twin Nicholas Locke. The present volume was so satisfying, however, that it made me an insta-fan and regretful not to have discovered it from the get-go.
