I still dearly love many of those KLF tracks, despite the fact that I was not a big clubber myself and found most dance music irritating or incomprehensible. Certainly more convincing than the straight rational idea that the KLF were ‘just attention-seeking arseholes’. They have all been released by what is commonly known as Indie record labels (however, this is not the place to define indie). Don’t hide behind any naive “no compromise” shields, the only thing you must not compromise on is your final goal: that Olympian slot on Top of the Pops.There was a period in our own prehistory when Top Tens and Number Ones didn’t exist, when tea time on Sunday wasn’t synonymous with the brand new chart run down. Famous names like Alan Moore, JFK (and his assassination) and Echo and the Bunny Men also get dropped as does a strange trickster rabbit entity that seems to follow Drummond in the early years of his career. Yes, Bill Drummond is a bit mad and had some clever ideas about how to make money and then decided to burn that money, but he also seems to be almost entirely elusive and so not in this book, really.

As you sit there in the sucker’s seat in the manager’s office he will smell the scent of securities. It’s all very pseudo-science before pseudo-science gained more mainstream traction if not respectability. We are afraid those on the dole who have let their rent go into arrears, their electricity go unpaid and with the creeping paranoia about this evil society, will be the same ones who if they were to achieve sudden wealth would in no time at all be owing insurmountable back debts to the tax man, have managers demand their percentage long after the money was spent and swapping their paranoia about society for paranoia peppered with bitterness that they had been “ripped off” all the way along the line. Firstly, the figures quoted (if true) are always the gross sums, not what’s left after all the necessary expenses have been taken into account. That was from the first reading - it feels off to add the update here when people have already liked it and may not like that, so I'm putting that in comments.People waste a lot of time, effort and money having stationery produced when getting a new business off the ground. Once or twice a decade an act will burst through with a Number One that hits a national nerve and the public’s appetite for the sound and packaging will not be satisfied with the one record.

Get yourself a studio, get a groove going, sing some absolute nonsense over the top, put a breakbeat behind it, and you're away!I only have a passing knowledge of music group The KLF, and a side interest in Discordianism in general, so this short book ultimately does a good job combining the two in the best way it possibly could given the metric ton of deliberate misinformation strewn about by all parties involved.
