About this deal

Sally was born and raised in Africa, schooled in England and at the Sorbonne in Paris, and now lives in New York City. Not only is each story as vividly illustrated as it is portrayed, but also each tale is telling one Big Story--the Story of Jesus. This would be an easy fix if they displayed only one page at a time, but being a children's book with pictures, they opted to display two at all times.

Sally Lloyd-Jones has captured the heart of what it means to find Christ in all the scriptures, and has made clear even to little children that all God’s revelation has been about Jesus from the beginning–a truth not all that commonly recognized even among the very learned. She is the author of three bestselling children's Bibles, including the Moonbeam Award winner and ALA notable The Jesus Storybook Bible, as well as Thoughts to Make Your Heart Sing, winner of the ECPA Inspirational Book award. Sometimes she does this with startling insight: Her take on the story of Leah and Rachel is an ancient reading of the text that points straight to the gospel and the doctrine of election.I LOVE to give people The Jesus Storybook Bible because from the very first chapter it paints a powerful picture of God’s epic love for each one of us. I would urge not just families with young children to get this book, but every Christian–from pew warmers, to ministry leaders, seminarians and even theologians! I have bought this books several times, it makes for a great gift for Primary School Teachers and first time parents or as a birthday gift for young children. The title Lloyd-Jones gives to the classic story of Daniel in the lion’s den is, “Daniel and the Scary Sleepover.

Often I think that difficult stories have been tackled well - eg the story of Abraham being asked to sacrifice Isaac is often one which we gloss over with children, as many adults find it more difficult to comprehend than the children we are explaining it to, I think the author tells the story beautifully - I'm not an emotional person, but more than once have been choked up reading this! The stories we have read so far are very close to the text (not just "stories" but actual passages of the Bible) and there is always a conclusion that points to Jesus, which is really well done (it's done in a very natural way without implying that the passage itself points to Jesus). Excelente presentación y lo mas importante, las historias son de muy fácil lectura, fue regalo de reyes para mi hijo de 6 años y le encanto, el nos lo lee cada noche asi que es muy edificante para todos en casa. The author is sensitive to her readers, there are areas where she may be accused of glossing over - eg she tells us Joseph was imprisoned for something he didn't do - which I feel then leaves the parent to make a choice if and when to explain further and to what extent. I remember as a young pastor being asked by the director of children’s ministries in our church to help out in vacation Bible school by dressing up like an Old Testament character and telling the kids my story.Perhaps it does not dwell sufficiently on the sin aspect of the gospel, although it reiterates in almost every story that Jesus 'rescues' us, but again, that leaves a responsible parent to explain at will - we can't leave the whole job to a children's bible can we? I’m a multi award winning children’s book illustrator and have produced work for nearly 60 books and a few magazines, as well as a TV show or two.

When we tie up the story in a nice neat little package, and answer all the questions, we leave no room for mystery.

I am so glad that he had the chance to find out about God, Jesus how the world was made trough words he can easily understand. Jago is an accomplished illustrator with several prestigious awards to his credit, including a Macmillian "Highly Commended" Award for Children's Illustration in 2003, an AOI Silver Award in 2004, and the National Literacy Association Wow! Even the Old Testament stories of `The young hero and the horrible giant' and `Daniel and the scary sleepover' come full circle to Jesus, the greatest Hero, King, Lover and Rescuer the world has ever known.

As a child, even though I was a Christian, I grew up thinking the Bible was filled with rules you had to keep (or God wouldn't love you) and with heroes setting examples you had to follow (or God wouldn't love you). Lloyd-Jones was born in Kampala, Uganda and studied Art History with French at University of Sussex and Paris-Sorbonne University. It makes for a perfect gift and there are also DVD's and an audio CD available (read so well by David Suchet of Poirot fame). It is an excellent, clear retelling of significant parts of the Bible in simple straightforward language. The earth was filled with noisy noises - growling and gobbling and snapping and snorting and happy skerfuffling. Not very religious myself but I think it's a great book and I'm actually finding it interesting to learn from it too! The bestselling The Jesus Storybook Bible, written by Sally Lloyd-Jones and illustrated by Jago, is celebrating its phenomenal success with this beautiful clothbound gift edition. Excerpted from The Jesus Storybook Bible by Sally Lloyd-Jones Copyright © 2009 by Sally Lloyd-Jones . And Adam and Eve joined in the Song of the stars and the streams and the wind in the trees, the wonderful Song of love to the one who made them. The Jesus storybook bible is written and illustrated beautifully and is most definitely a handsome heirloom quality book.
