So, imagine my surprise when the Epiphone Les Paul Special VE has now become the number one guitar I pick up. Please know I am not an unusually talented guitarist however I do love to play and appreciate the quality of these instruments (and the sounds they produce). The fact is, a good guitar technician can make one of these cheap guitars play almost as well as an expensive one.

It didn’t exactly come playable out of the box, but it was ready to go after a tuning and some action adjustment. As a side note, I also purchased the Fender Champion 20 amp with this guitar which makes for an excellent and very economical starter kit for a beginner or intermediate guitarist. Even from the Epiphone model to the Epiphone model, you’ll find different woods for every part, different pickups, different controls, etc. And as for sound, these dual-humbuckers produce rich, warm, and clear sounds, and just like the PAF originals featured in the original LP, these pickups can be very aggressive and cutting when you need them to be. I'm very glad that you gave attention to those guitars, in a few years, many of today's gear snobs will recognize Epiphone's place as great instrument makers, along side the "Big Boys" .You can tell whether a page is secure as 'https' will replace the 'http' at the front of the kennysmusic. THAT is why I love cheap guitars like these, and this particular model is one of the best for all those lofty noble goals. And the Epiphone Les Paul Special VE still features the legendary LP Mahogany neck and Rosewood fretboard that adds the rich harmonic content this model is known for. The finish is a little darker than I expected, but I can live with that-especially since that finish is so good. And it's all thanks to Epiphone's careful construction of an all-time rock 'n' roll classic - the Les Paul.

Therefore, go with the Special of any kind, but maybe replace the tuners and test it out first for fretwork and other considerations. There aren't any 'rules' as to what country makes good or bad guitars, but rather which brands have tighter quality control. Poplar is a much more affordable wood, yet still offers a great deal of clarity and warmth and does a great job of emulating the role of a Mahogany body.

I'm mostly interested in the sound, if it has the same sort of tone, thats really what matters to me. I’m not sure if that's because I’m not used to a 14” radius or maybe just not being used to a Les Paul body in general; either way it didn’t take me long to warm up to, but it definitely feels a little harder to hit those notes than on another single cutaway, like a Tele for instance.
