At first, the ending seemed a bit anticlimactic, but upon reflection, I felt like the whole adventurous lead-up was all part of the ending and it worked. Soon afterwards, various bizarre incidents unfold in England: an apparently unmanned ship is wrecked off the coast of Whitby; a young woman discovers strange puncture marks on her neck; and the inmate of a lunatic asylum raves about the ‘Master’ and his imminent arrival. Even after all these years, it remains a gripping and chilling tale that will haunt your thoughts long after you've closed the book.
