About this deal

Her second novel, The Taking of Annie Thorne, was also a Sunday Times bestseller as was her third novel, The Other People.

This was one of my favourites and it follows a group of teenagers as they break into an abandoned tower block near where they live. Even though there were a couple I didn't fully get at the end, I think that's more due to me not being the person who figures the ending out ahead of time, and CJ may be expanding some of these in future, I think.

The extravagance and opulence is still in evidence everywhere on board, but needless to say, a little shabby after (circa) 50+ years. Each one was unique and what I really liked is how the author mixed current events along with a mix of supernatural/horror and blended both together so well they were kinda terrifying! I have give this terrific collection of stories a rating of 4 1/2 "FUNTASTIC AND CREEPILICIOUS" 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌠 STARS! Butterfly Island which tells the story of a group of survivors who wash up on a deserted island and make a horrifying discovery .

Even good old Uncle King and his masterpiece "Fairy Tale" failed to rescue me from my recent bout and has sat, barely started, on the shelf. A little introduction talking about the inspiration for each tale was a nice touch, and my library copy had a gorgeous cover too (not the one above). In A Sliver of Darkness, the British author delivers 11 equally, not in the exact sense of the word, however close, irresistible little tales, all displaying her boundless imagination and ability to craft twisty tales of dread, with the protagonists, whether men or women, young or old, being the narrators apart from the main agents of each story.Eleven tales that are not all of the spine-tingling variety but are definitely Stephen King territory. It was simply that I wanted to see more of characters like Gloria and to learn more about the bleak future worlds with their hints of cataclysm and desperation.

This one was not one of my favourites and although the plot was interesting, it was nothing new or special.

To conclude, I don’t really know how to review an anthology, because the stories are quite short and I don’t want to spoil them for other readers.
