Warning: This is the first book in a duet. It's a full-length novel with no sudden cliffhangers, but Blake and Farrah’s story continues in book two, If the Sun Never Sets (due out July 2020), which takes place five years later. HEA guaranteed in book two. For the rest of the story, it is him trying to get a 2nd chance with Farrah since he is now single & still in love with her but she won't give him the time of day for a good 80% of the story as he broke her trust. I went to a bar that night. I was still so pissed at you, and seeing you…anyway, I had too much to drink again, and I slept with a guy I met at the bar. I don’t remember if we used protection—I wasn’t on the pill anymore—but a few months later, I found out I was pregnant.” Cleo’s lower lip trembled. “It had to be his. He was the only person I slept with after you left for Shanghai. But I didn’t even know his name, and I couldn’t tell my parents that. It’s bad enough I had sex before marriage. If they found out I had a one-night stand and got pregnant by some guy I didn’t know, they would disown me.”

In conclusion, you will enjoy this book if you enjoy well-written, slow burn romance novels with steamy heat that bring you on a journey. This book is the first in a duology, and doesn’t end in a happily ever after yet. It’s promised in book two though. I received an ARC from the author in exchange for this honest review. Farrah and Blake are so different yet so alike. She’s innocent, and he’s experienced. Blake is a popular college football star bound for the NFL, and Farrah is a hard-working college student working toward a career in design. She has plans for her future, and he’s still trying to figure out his life, especially since he left football for good. She has strong support from her mother, while Blake maintains a strained and distant relationship with his parents.

But the more she gets to know him, the more she realizes there’s more than meets the eye to the man she’s hated for so long. I hope you can forgive me one day, and that we can have closure. I said it before, and I’ll say it again—I don’t blame you for my miscarriage. It devastated me—us—but it wasn’t your fault. It was an accident. This isn’t to guilt you into forgiving me, but hopefully, it’ll give you the peace you need. We’ve both been through so much. I think it’s time we finally let go of our past and move on.” A veil had lifted, allowing her to see all of him and all of her reflected in those blue depths. Every feeling, every decision, every choice – not just theirs but those of everyone who’d come before them. Thousands of years, millions of moving pieces that had to fit, if only for a second, so the could be where they were in that moment. Bold, impulsive, and full of life, Isabella Valencia has never met a party she doesn’t like or a man she couldn’t charm...except for Kai Young. A self-professed travel enthusiast, she loves incorporating beautiful destinations into her stories and will never say no to a good chai latte.

A steamy strangers to friends to lovers romance from Ana Huang, the New York Times bestselling author of the Kings of Sin and Twisted series Farrah and Blake are studying abroad in Shanghai for a year. Their group of friends is so close knit and has a ton of fun together. Without planning or really any forward thinking the two fall into a wild romance. Blake brings our Farrah’s wild side and Farrah helps Blake to be more confident in himself. Also worth noting, I listened to the book via audio and didn’t love the narrator either. I thought the voice she used for the guys was really bad and the voice for the girl main a little annoying. I think it would have been better as 2 narrators. This also impacted my rating of the book because it was difficult to get through. It shouldn’t matter. He’s not her type—the man translates classics into Latin for fun, and his membership at the exclusive club where she bartends means he’s strictly off limits.

I also liked the secondary characters in the story. Farrah and Blake have a core group of friends that they spend time with. The witty banter is realistic and funny, and it is clear the group had a great friendship. Farrah worries that the family she formed while in Shanghai won’t last past their year abroad, but I suspect (and hope) that Kris, Olivia, Sammy, Leo, and the others appear in the next book. If We Ever Meet Again is a slow burn New Adult contemporary romance. It contains profanity and explicit content. Recommended for 18+. He wanted to hate Cleo. He had hated her for the rest of that weekend, when the tension from his outburst at his father’s party hung heavy in the Ryan household and he’d retreated into his thoughts instead of dealing with the fallout. He’d had to mourn his son all over again, only this time, he’d been mourning the loss of what he thought had been his. Something he’d held as truth, that had defined his life for half a decade, upended in minutes.

But no matter how hard he tries, he can’t keep a certain beautiful brunette off his mind...or out of his heart.

Reserved, controlled, and proper to a fault, Kai Young has neither the time nor inclination for chaos—and Isabella, with her purple hair and inappropriate jokes, is chaos personified. But she can’t deny that, beneath his cool exterior, is a man who could make her melt with just a touch. Her books have been sold to over two dozen foreign publishers for translation and featured in outlets such as NPR, Cosmopolitan, Financial Times, and Glamour UK. I went into this because a friend said that I may like it but I honestly had no intentions to read it because I had a feeling I knew what it would be about as all 2nd chance romances these days seem to have cheating as the main factor. Well, I wasn't wrong - nor right as it turns out.

Authors, if you are a member of the Goodreads Author Program, you can edit information about your own books. Find out how in this guide. This book had some really cute and spicy pieces as part of the romance but the ending was really predictable. This is part of a series so I’m thinking the next one will help build on this story but since I haven’t gotten there I have to base this review on only this book which is why it’s just getting an “ok” rating. As much as Blake wanted to continue hating Cleo, he couldn’t. Partly because they’d both been at fault—him with the accident, her with the deceit—and partly because he’d been relieved. The scales had evened a bit (though it still tipped heavier on his side), and he hadn’t cheated on Farrah. It may have seemed like a small detail in the grand scheme of things, but not to him.
