As the Landlord and Landlady's painful story slowly unfolds throughout the evening, a series of regulars visit the pub - all played by Moorhouse and Elliot.

Fred and Alice is a boring couple. They talk about Elvis and a extra in a film, they in turn are the extra’s in life because no-one really pays attention to them but they just get along with each other, the “Two” of them. To help me self narrate my character in this scene, I looked at what she said in the play to get me in the frame of mind of the old woman. I believe this to be a mind frame filled with regret concerning her husband and of inner conflict as to whether she should run off with someone else or to stay with her husband. The scene we looked at was the Roy and Lesley scene. My first impression of their relationship was that perhaps it had started well but had then led to domestic violence, rather then it being there from the start. SeanGiere on “I don’t like being approached by people who look at me too intensely, who needed something from me that I didn’t have. I don’t represent anything.”— Liz Phair I have also learnt that Lesley might not have thought through marrying Roy at the time and is now not strong enough to leave him. The Spoken Thoughts I used were “He looks so happy! I feel so happy! This was meant to be, we’re going to spend the rest of our lives together.” For Lesley and for Roy “I will be more careful this time, I will give her no chances to leave.” Roy’s quote was used to suggest that he had had a relationship and it hadn’t worked. This idea could be used to explain why he is controlling over Lesley and violent to her. Because his past relationship had made him insecure and he didn’t want to be cheated or left again.

The scenes we looked at were Roy and Lesley and Mr. and Mrs. Igor. We choose these scenes because they have strong characters and they both look at faithfulness; Roy is trying to enforce Lesley to stay with him and Mrs. Igor is clearly being unfaithful because she states that she loves big men and she describes her husband as “Mr. feeble”

CLARE. Don’t worry. I still love you, that’s left. I keep on seeing faces, like me dad’s, me mum’s, me dad’s again. I still want to cry when I see me dad’s dismantled face. He lost his last job you know. Just think one day there might be the last job on earth. And everyone will come out to see the man lose it. They’ll all watch as he comes up to his last hour. The last hooter blow whoooooooooo oh oooooooo ooooooooooooooooo I’m being corny now, in’t a Joey? Oh my it’s white in here behind the eyes, so mist. In the next work shop we looked at the explorative strategy of Narration, mainly looking at Self Narration as a technique. Self narration is when the character being focused on is saying what they are doing as they do them, also they could talk about memories thoughts and feelings, this gives a hint to the audience as to what might happen later or a deeper look into the focused upon character. CLARE. It feels like it is. ( She starts to sing to herself, very soft.) ‘Don’t know much about history. Don’t know much about society. But I do know that I love you and I know if you’d love me too what a wonderful world this would be. What a wonderful world this would be.’ In this work shop I played the part of the wife. I used forum theatre to look at the reaction of the wife, and whether or not she would deny it, disbelieve it or be outraged at her husband or his lover. The lights come up on Joey’s room. Two weeks later. Joey is sitting up in bed with his arm around Clare. She is sleeping. Joey’s face really shows the strain now, it is taut and white.

The first Frozen Image I did was of their wedding day. Roy had his arms around Lesley as they were cutting the wedding cake. They were looking into each others eyes and smiling happily. Roy’s body language was neutral so as to show he had no control over Lesley yet. I did this to show that they might have started out as a happy couple, even if Roy had some doubts, shown in his spoken thought. Mitch Berg on “What’s the difference between an exile and an expatriate? It seems to me that an Englishman in France is an expat, but an Irishman is an exile.”— Irish poet Derek Mahon With its rapid costume changes, multitude of roles, and sudden shifts in mood, Two is clearly a challenging script for any company. But actors Phil Malkin and Kay Sanders prove more than equal to their demanding task, turning in near-faultless individual performances and, crucially, developing a strong personal chemistry too. The delineation between their sundry characters is impeccable; at one point, I genuinely had to remind myself that the bluff landlord and his geeky put-upon customer were in fact the same man. Credit’s also due to director Rob Hiatt, for managing the practicalities of a production which is far more complex than it seems. Two - Octagon. Young Vic Theatre. Winner of: Manchester Evening News Theatre Award for Best New Play. directed by Andy Hay My initial response to the text was, it is an interesting story and I enjoyed it. It seemed to be centered on different stages of relationships. The underlying message seemed to be that trust is the key in all good relationships. But near the end both of the stronger characters take control again. This was to show that Roy and Mrs. Igor have stronger personalities then Mr. Igor and Lesley. Smelly Jimmy is a strange character; he has no dialog yet makes a strong impact on the Landlord and Landlady, leaving the audience on a cliff hanging wondering what he said.
