Description

If you have a full Superheavy detachment of Chaos Knights and they share a sub-faction, they gain the appropriate “Ambition”.

TheChirurgeon: Death Guard can take seven-model Plague Marine units. Honestly, this is kind of nice for allowing them slightly more freedom to create lists and I’ll admit that sometimes 7 models is the right number (though usually it’s the number of warpflamers I want). And it does let you do the odd combo of a 5-man and a 7-man pair of units in a single Rhino with no characters, which sure is a thing you can do. Also, Plagueburst Crawlers are one of the very few sources of Indirect that don’t take a nerf, which is a nice little bit of help, though they’re also still shooting AP-1 indirect guns. Overall – it’s good that we’ve gotten some swift changes, they definitely make things better , opening up the metagame enough that it can actually develop , but if you pinned me down and made me choose I’d say not far enough, and I suspect the clamour for bigger changes will get pretty deafening if GW do choose to hold on till the next quarterly points update. Other than the Moirax, which we’ve already discussed, there’s only really one relevant option coming out of this. The Atropos and Magaera are both sufficiently “fine” that they’ll serve you well in less serious games, but the only option for a big Knight that has top table potential is the Castigator. Infernal Cerastus Knight Castigator Each Chaos Knight is a twisted reflection of the Imperial Knights. The Knight suits were first created using Standard Template Constructs during the Dark Age of Technology. Many have survived the innumerable wars that have characterized the long millennia since. Over years or even centuries, Chaos energies seep into the war engine, torturing its Machine Spirit and mutating its mechanical form. Where once the suit and its pilot were a gleaming beacon, the Chaos Knight and its Fallen Noble comprise a symbiotic beast of wrath and hate. Just like Imperial Knights, Chaos Knights get a varying amount of CP from the Superheavy detachment depending on how many TITANIC units are in them. 3 War Dogs gives you 0, at least 1 TITANIC Knight gives 3CP and 3 TITANIC units gives you 6CP. Chaos Knights want to be in full detachments quite a bit more than Imperials do, so you’ll want to consider a detachment of two War Dogs and a larger Knight. Traitoris Ambitions (Faction Traits)

Final Thoughts

We aren’t going to cover the factions with no significant changes here – if you’re not mentioned, assume the answer is “things get a bit better for you”. Stratagems: There is a lot of utility in the Chaos Knights stratagems, from giving invulnerable saves, to allowing your units to pass through walls. Abaddon's morale bubble, for instance, helps you keep a screen intact while the Knight moves. That screen can advance and shoot with Heavy Weapons, which creates a use for Cultists. Whilst we will do everything we can to meet the delivery times above, there may be factors outside of our control and we cannot guarantee delivery within this time frame. There are a few things to watch out for in the instructions. The weapon options in the top right here will decide which version of the Knight you choose. However, they can all be magnetized. You’ll need some 1/4″ and 5/16″ magnets for the arm bits; that way, you can change out the weapons.

Because the unit list is so short, we will briefly touch on why various other options don’t currently get there, although honestly a lot of it can be summed up as “this guy”: And then some of the stuff here is just baffling. The World Eaters Lord of Skulls going up to an eye-watering 525 points is just insane. Who lost to a Lord of Skulls and decided this was necessary? It’s literally psycho shit. The Knight Desecrator is a type of Questoris Pattern Chaos Knight, that is a powerhouse at mid- to close-range combat. [1a] FACTION KEYWORDS: CHAOS, CHAOS KNIGHTS, < QUESTOR TRAITORIS> ICONOCLAST HOUSEHOLD INFERNAL HOUSEHOLD, < DREAD HOUSEHOLD> HOUSE HERPETRAX HOUSE KHOMENTIS HOUSE KHYMERE HOUSE KORVAX HOUSE LUCARIS HOUSE VEXTRIX DREADBLADE

Thunderstrike Gauntlet – S16 AP-4 D6 melee weapon. -1 to hit rolls, and if you destroy a vehicle/monster with it, on a 4+, an enemy unit within 9” takes d3 mortal wounds. We’ve already covered the Infernal/Iconoclast stratagems earlier, so take a look in their section if you’re after those. The Good Ones You can only select the Despair ability if you selected the Despair or Doom ability in the previous battle round. So why would you take a Diamonas Desecrator over another long range Knight like the Double Battle Cannon? Well, the Diamonas is about 80 points cheaper, give or take, so there’s that. Second, the Diamonas is better at killing at T8 models without an invulnerable save like tanks. Against a T8, non-Titanic model with a 3+ armor save, a Desecrator with Diamonas does 7.36 wounds vs 4.71 from a DubBC. That is certainly much more average efficiency (and remember, averages don’t feel average some games) against that specific target. Against a T8, Titanic model with a 4++, a Desecrator does 4.89 wounds vs 4.68 by the DubBC. So here, there is not that much difference in averages, but as the Diamonas is cheaper, that seems like a win for it. Against a T7 target, like Mortarion, a Desecrator does 3.38 wounds, and the DubBC does 4.20 wounds. This where we see the drop off. This dog won’t hunt sadly. The Diamonas pattern can do some work in specific matchups, but it is outshined by other options. Thanks as always for reading, and you know, that almost wraps up the codex, and we can start looking ahead to the Forgeworld goodness out there. Remember: the SoCal Open is coming up fast, so be painting, be practicing, and be ready. You can’t go as deep on Knights as in Imperium. You need to spend more points on other stuff so they’re not wasted. This tends to take the Knight Tyrant builds off the table. This list goes hard into swarming the board in obsec bodies and taking advantage of the favor system as much as possible to provide utility to the list. While the Desecrator doesn’t have the durability of the Abominant and is going to be missing The Diamonas, it’s a nice balance of lethality and durability especially since giving it the Veil of Medrenguard means you won’t need to worry about boosting its ion save every turn. While most of the favors here exist to give the list options (like ignoring invulns with the Blood shield or teleporting with Warp Born Stalker), the two most important ones are The Pyrothrone and The Mirror of fate. The Pyrothrone enables you to take the Psychic Interrogation secondary and The Mirror of Fate enables some much needed CP generation. With everything being obsec, you’re going to want to explode out of your deployment zone and get on objective early. Lastly Herpetrax gives the entire list a nice durability boost while also giving you access to the Iconoclast buffs which are very helpful for dealing with Armor of Contempt targets. Chaos Questoris Knight Styrix can receive the following Favour of the Dark Gods upgrades: • Blood Shield

A Fitting Challenge has you taking out specific targets chosen pre-game, with points for removing them from the table early and often. Because those targets have to be the ones with the highest points value, the value of this secondary is going to depend heavily on what those units are and, fittingly from a lore standpoint, this is going to be most valuable when going up against other knight armies or armies relying on big vehicles and monsters that can’t be protected easily. It’s a pretty average secondary on the whole – it’ll usually be worth 7-8 points – but not something you’re going to want to take very often. So yah, let’s face the truth: This kit doesn’t do enough. At range, with Diamonas, the Desecrator can do work, but that’s a big “can”, not that it “will”. It is cheaper than most other Knights, but still, it is a lot of points in a low efficiency model. You are getting 3 shots at range, and that’s it, so if you have no good targets, it really does feel like a waste, and while it can stomp against hordes, a melee Despoiler does that better for cheaper. If you need heavy armor killing, a DubM is cheaper and better at it, granted at a shorter range. If you want tactical flexibility and the ability to take on multiple threats, a DubBC is the way to go for both AT and AP roles with a longer range. Yes, the Desecrator does buff War Dogs a bit, but really, not enough for the trio to be that useful. Even if you are going a full melee horde, you will get more mileage out of 2 fighty War Dogs and a DubM than you would a Desecrator, and for about 40 points less. The Desecrator is a cool kit and it gets you the Chaosy-Knight, but really, the best part of it is that you get the cool carapace and spikes from the model, not to mention the cool Reaper Chainsaw. Even then, you need to buy a Desecrator kit and an Imperial kit to get all the options for a Despoiler (and have it look properly chaosy). This option is super good, and offers something unique compared to Imperials. It gets a lot of airtime. Dual Avenger Iconoclasts
