THE GOOD POINTS: If you find other linear switches to be too light to actuate and/or you make typos with those, then this may be for you. Activation Point – this indicates at which point the switch is pressed down hard enough to translate information from keyboard to computer. Most switches will have an actuation point of around 2mm unless the switch is low-profile, in which case the activation point is shorter. This pressure point is measured in millimeters (mm). The benefits of this switch design are the fact that they allow a mechanical keyboard to be designed to be thinner and have a shorter actuation distance, which is in theory is faster for gaming.

One of our favorite keyboards out-fitted with Gateron low-profile switches is the Keychron K1v4. Which Gateron Switch is the Best? All of the switches in this classification are considered “clones” since they mirror the design of the Cherry MX switch and use the same descriptive names where the colors represent the actuation type and spring force. With a full aluminum keyboard and all of the switch mods, lets see just how well these Gateron Ink switches perform. The Verdict The KBD75 was an excellent keyboard to put these switches inside of as the aluminum build really lets these switches shine, both in terms of aesthetic and sound. Kailhs are one of the best clone switches available on the market. This brand features a unique style of switches well-adapted from the Cherry series. A great line of switches here includes the Box and Speed switches.

Some keyboard users are not a fan of silent switches due to the rubbery feel when logging a keystroke and the fact that the sound is muted, while others really enjoy this aspect of the switch. Others use low-profile switches purely for gaming purposes because of the lower actuation distance, but based on a test that I did, I found no improvement when using a shorter actuation distance for gaming. Gateron low profile switches have a completely different design than a normal switch. Gateron low-profile switches have a different shaped stem and a much short actuation and travel distance. With many switches having a lifespan of up to 50 million keystrokes, they’ll last a long time. This is one of the advantages of Gateron. In comparison to Kailhs, they are built to take a lot of hits, whether you’re typing or gaming. – Key Activation Force The hallmark differences of the Ink switches are the clear smoky housing, different plastic material, lower pitch sound, and smoother feel. Spending a good sum of money on a keyboard switch takes some doing. While there are key keyboard switches differences, you’d want one that lasts for the long term. As such, it’s one big factor to consider, especially if your keyboard will be used for the tougher stuff. Before applying lube and switch film to the batch of Inks, the switches felt a bit scratchy and I was a little disappointed by how much they seemed to wobble.

The Gateron Blue switch gives a tactile sensation and sound, with a noticeable bump with each press to ensure every keystroke is on point. The sound levels with a silent switch are significantly lower, in a test we found that silent switches are 16% more quiet than a normal switch. Whether you study a Gateron review or not, there is a switch ideal for certain functions. For instance, linear switches are well suited for gamers and tactile for typing. Of course, they could both run both comfortably, but the perfect one will fit what you do. ConclusionFor instance, the Red and Yellow switches give off a great gaming experience. They can take a lot of pressure and are known to last longer than typical switches. While being Cherry MX clones, Gateron’s main switch lineup does differ slightly from Cherry MX. Gateron switches are typically smoother due to a slightly smaller stem which can make using a Gateron linear switch much more enjoyable than a Cherry MX one. The Gateron specialty switches are where things get especially interesting. The different housing designs of the Milk and Ink switches really bring a unique design to the playing field and allows Gateron to show everybody they are more than just a Cherry MX clone company.

Keyboard switches are components that are built into keyboards and appear underneath the keycaps. When you press the keys, a change in the feel, sound, and response time is felt. Switches are great for a large number of functions. This includes typing of documents and software development. 2. Which switch is perfect for what I do? Due to the smoothness of Gateron switches, we definitely prefer their silent switches to other switches. The shorter actuation in my experience is more uncomfortable to type on, but some enjoy this design because a thinner keyboard may feel easier on their wrists. As mentioned before, lubing and filming the Gateron Inks brings them to a whole new level. I found that Krytox 205g0 was the most effective as improving the smoothness and getting rid of the spring ping. The only switch that differs slightly is the Gateron Clear switch which is totally different from the Cherry MX Clear. Instead of being a heavy tactile, the Gateron Clear is a super-light linear switch. While Gateron hasn’t had a reputation for being a premium switch, they offer the most budget-friendly options and are pound-for-pound one of the best switch options out there. The Gateron Yellow switch. Similar to the Red linear Gateron switch, the Yellow requires slightly lighter pressure at 5g more actuation force of 50g. Also a fast response and quiet switch without a tactile bump suitable for gaming.
