My girls love this fun narrative that’s just a little bit silly! I love that this book engages children with contemporary art to teach them about feelings. I love this book for exploring the complexity of emotions with young children. How can Theo possibly feel happy and sad and jealous and proud all at the same time!?? It’s a great story to share with a new big brother or sister too. Helping children learn to identify emotions, the situations that spark these feelings and effective coping skills provides them with a strong emotional foundation, which in turn can lead to increased self confidence and sense of self esteem.

Aliki uses comic style illustrations and brief text to explore a range of commonly felt emotions, with each featured in it’s own short story. A friendly, positive first book of feelings for younger children, this great little book talks about how feelings effect our bodies and minds, alongside strategies for learning to manage overwhelming emotions. A wonderful story for offering children a descriptive vocabulary of feelings and emotions, and for sparking further conversation of what feelings can feel like.

A lovely, interactive guide to help children learn to name their feelings and the physical sensations that accompany each one. There are many different types of quiet and this book is perfect for inviting discovery and discussion with children about the emotions behind each of the different kinds of quiet – be it nervousness, excitement, concern or silent awe. This truly is a lovely book.

Get off your chair in the middle of the day. Put on your shoes and take a long walk on open streets around people. Notice how they’re all walking, in a hurry, or slowly. Smiling, laughing, or eyes straight forward, hurried to get to wherever they’re going. And notice how you’re just one of them. Not more, not less. Find comfort in the way you’re just one in the crowd. Your worries: no more, no less. A beautiful book that describes a range of emotions and how they make you feel physically, with simple language that children will relate to. A lovely, interactive lift-the-flap books about feelings that is great for preschool and kindergarten. This book contains every thing I like in a good book. There are numerous specific examples and case studies of how this process has worked on many people, and testimonials. I particularly like how he explained that certain emotions are tied to certain organs. Anger to the liver, sadness to the lungs and colon, anxiety to the heart, and peeved to the bladder meridian. What's another word for peeved? Although an emotion is not necessarily limited to a specific organ. Then take a shower, wash off the day. Drink a glass of water. Make the room dark. Lie down and close your eyes.
Notice the silence. Notice your heart. Still beating. Still fighting. You made it, after all. You made it, another day. And you can make it one more.
You’re doing just fine.
You’re doing fine. The When I’m Feeling series includes books exploring a range of emotions – angry, jealous, kind, scared, lonely and loved, and they are one of my favourite resources for introducing children to emotions and strategies for expressing our feelings in ways that are appropriate and acceptable to ourselves and others. A word of caution, though, about the falling in love section. A benign questionnaire to enhance love is followed by a devious sequel calculated to demolish it. My husband and I decided against advancing beyond the first question: “If you could burn one possession of mine, what would it be?” Without drawing breath, my husband looked at me and said: “That jumper [of which I’m especially fond] you are wearing.”
