The great news for chess-loving Potterheads is that you can own a chess set that’s virtually identical to the one played by Harry and Ron – albeit completely inanimate! The Isle of Lewis Chess Set Wizard’s Edition – THE Harry Potter Chess Set The description was 'There's something so comforting about old, well-worn, much-loved things. We wish we could play a game of wizard chess on Ron's particularly rustic set. Not that we'd win, mind'. [24] In the position shown on the board, play would have continued as follows (moves written in algebraic notation): We’ve been asked about the ‘ Harry Potter Chess Set’ more times than you can shake a wand at. So, after studying the scene we noticed that the chess pieces are the spitting image of our limited edition, red and cream Isle of Lewis chessmen. The chess pieces are very well made and look exactly like the wizard chessmen from the movie. The plastic used to manufacture the pieces is of good quality and the pieces hold together very well. Just like the Harry Potter Wizard Chess sets from Mattel and The Noble Collection, the board for this one is made out of cardboard and folds into four parts. This is the biggest letdown for an otherwise very impressive looking chess set.

This eats a pawn (thereby making the producer happy!) and prevents the Knight's intrusion into h3. She also threatens to capture Harry on a3! Note that I had the Queen make the capture because I wanted to do everything possible to turn this piece into something the young fans hated. In other words, I wanted to turn the White Queen into the scene's villain. The "Dragon Variation of the Slytherin Defence" appears to be a pun on the real-world Sicilian Defence, Dragon Variation. The pieces in Th e Isle of Lewis Chess Set (Wizard’s Edition) have been made in England to the exact specifications of the original artefacts – and their cardinal and ivory colouring make them a perfect match for Harry and Ron’s set. The gameplay is like any other movie based themed chess set – not the best. You can still play chess on it but it’s mainly meant as a fun, toy set for the Harry Potter fans that want to re-live the experience of Ron and Harry from the Sorcerer’s Stone Wizard’s chess scene in the movie.

This Harry Potter themed chess set from The Noble Collection is a cool, fun, chess set that will keep the kids entertained and works perfectly as a gift. For hardcore Harry Potter fans and chess nerds as well, this set is the perfect combination – a true collector’s item. Original Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s Stone Movie Chess Set The first one, not so popular, was the one where wizard's chess has been introduced. It was Ron playing against Harry in the hall, while Hermione was calling the game ''barbarian'' since the pieces were not captured but destroyed. Anyways, we did not got much from that game, since it was really short scene but a good one. e4 d5 2. exd5: Played by the white side of the giant chess board in the Chessboard Chamber against Ronald Weasley. Also known as the Main Line of the Scandinavian Defence. [15]

In LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4, Ron trips over a chess piece's sword, falls unconscious, and is unable to follow his friends. The chess pieces of this set are made up of moderately heavy plastic mixed with another material that provides some flexibility. It’s not by any means the highest quality but still durable enough for kids to handle (or mishandle). In case you drop a piece on the floor and it breaks, you may not be able to use the ‘reparo’ spell to repair it. So, I would advise handling the pieces with care.Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone . Directed by Chris Columbus. Burbank: Warner Bros. Pictures, 2001. We believe that The Isle of Lewis Chess Set (Wizard’s Edition) is the closest Harry Potter fans can get to a game of Wizard’s Chess – and, with its elegant presentation box, it makes a magical gift to the Potterhead in your life. During the Christmas holidays in the 1984–1985 school year, Rowan Khanna got a new Wizard's Chess set from their parents, and invited Jacob's sibling to play the game in the Great Hall when they were on break from Christmas decorating. [6] Players moved their pieces by speaking the name of the piece and the square it was to move to by algebraic notation. For example, 'Knight to E5'. Aside from the self-moving pieces, the rules of Wizard's Chess were exactly the same as Muggle chess. The moving pieces seemed to be reasonably sentient, as seen when Harry Potter began learning how to play the game, he used Seamus Finnigan's pieces, which offered him conflicting advice because they knew that he was not a good or experienced player.
