The “dark and flat” colours, namely Dark Angels Green, Cygor Brown, Leviadon Blue, and Shyish Purple. These paints tint a lot but don’t produce very pronounced highlights. Lizzie: A bold and brash paint with subtle darker tones, this is really versatile. Of course, it’s ideal for those Aeldari Striking Scorpions, but it’s brilliant for glazing onto eye lenses and gemstones to create glowing effects. On the paler end of the scale for blues and greens, the less saturated Briar Queen Chill finds itself sitting alongside Aethermatic Blue.

Jaded and capricious in the extreme, Sigvald the Magnificent ever strives to plumb new depths of cruelty in his conquests. He inspires fanatical devotion in his followers, for they know that in the aftermath of battle, they may sate their most unholy lusts without restraint. [1a] Sigvald's Folly It was from here that Sigvald, in his desire for perfection, gave his soul to a Daemonic Slaaneshi entity known only as Belus Pül. In exchange for his patronage, Sigvald promised the Daemon that he would follow his dream and indulge himself in every kind of decadence no matter how slight. With his soul sold to the Daemon, Sigvald was given the power he needed to acquire anything he so desires. [3a] Sigvald Burgundy is a deep, rich red paint from Citadel Colour. As a base coat, it provides a smooth, even foundation for miniature painting. Its matt finish is perfect for creating shadows and depth on miniatures, and the high-quality pigments ensure excellent coverage. This paint is an exceptional addition to any beginner’s palette and pairs well with other reds, as well as metallics and other bold colours. What armies to paint with Sigvald Burgundy We don’t want to repeat everything here, but there is one thing I want to point out: Not all Contrast paints are the same. The current range can be roughly divided into three categories:Emma’s Tzaangors have a vibrant, old-school colour scheme that uses Contrast for almost everything, from their pastel skin to their earthy horns – she’s even used layers of Contrast paint to give a metallic look to their golden weapons and trim. By transitioning from a wash of Bad Moon Yellow to Ironjawz Yellow and Nazdreg Yellow , and then sharply highlighting with pure White Scar , Emma’s created a reflective and gleaming appearance for the gold surfaces – even though no metallic paints were used.* James Rose The “real” Contrast colours. These are the ones that do exactly what Contrast promises – pulling away from the edges and gathering in the recesses while still tinting the surface, creating mid-tone, shading and some basic highlights with one application. This was the majority of the range and comprises all colours I didn’t mention in the first two categories. Lizzie: What a name! Perfect on Daemonettes and other Daemons of Slaanesh – you can apply this over a light skin tone to create gaunt and sunken flesh. It’s also fun to use over metallics to create a really unique tone.

In June, we invited Warhammer TV painting presenter Emma Robinson to talk about her favourite colours and some inspired uses for them. Today we’ve got her co-host, Lizzie Ward, to talk about her 10 favourite paints from the new range and how she has been using them.Lizzie: Easily one of the most vibrant of the green tones, this really draws attention to a miniature. I’ve used this to create some bright warp flame, and Nighthaunt magic. Our paint scientists haven’t stopped there. White Scar is our best ever white spray paint. It applies smoothly and with absolutely no fuss, giving you the perfect foundation for painting dazzling colours – and it works particularly well with our most vibrant new Contrast paints. Kantor Blue -This rich blue color provides a complementary contrast to the burgundy hue of Sigvald Burgundy, and can be used to create striking highlights and shadows on miniatures. It pairs well with a range of other blue shades, as well as with other warm colours like orange and yellow. Not only have all of the existing Shades been reformulated – during the process of refining these recipes, the Citadel Colour technicians were inspired to create seven entirely new paints.* Apothecary White and Gryph-charger Grey give you two blue-hued ways to shade White, but Dreadful Visage is a pale grey shade with a hint of lilac.
