Description

This adventurous book begins with the reader meeting Nibbles the Book Monster. He loves to nibble everything but his favorite thing to nibble is BOOKS! Most of the time, Nibbles is contained in his cell being good. But whenever he escapes, panic and mayhem always ensue. This time, Nibbles has escaped and is nibbling through different folktales and fairy-tales which leaves their stories a mess! See the crazy mess that Nibbles leaves in his path. Everyone wants Nibbles to be caught.

Nibbles nibbles his way through story books while the reader tries to catch him. What could be better! They are perceived as classics but I think the only reason Red Riding Hood is still popular today is because it's free to print and retell the story. Same with all the others. Here are some ways I am using this activity to produce some educational outcomes in my class. Learning Ideas for LiteracyNibbles is a wonderfully appealing 'monster' and children will love the mayhem he causes. The story can also be used with older KS1 children to explore the idea of changing fairy tale endings by bringing in a new character. They will also enjoy reading the blurbs at the end of each story which have been nibbled - and so changed - by Nibbles; something they can practice when re-writing their own fairy tales! As I reorganize my library shelves, I have come across a few gems that I bought on a trip to London and somehow shelved without reading them. What a treat this little cache has been this morning! I love the fact that a traditional tales have been included and altered to fit into this book! SO CLEVER! it give the children some familiarity and shows them how some traditional tales can be changed and altered.

Edit: This post was written when there was only 3 Nibbles books available. Currently, there are four available. The first document contains a ‘Book Talk Map’. This is the perfect document to guide your discussion after story time with questions to encourage children to think critically and imaginatively to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for Nibbles! High quality book talk is imperative in supporting a reading for pleasure attitude in our pupils. These questions provide a prompt for rich discussion questioning children’s perspectives on the book and what they like or dislike about it. Have the student think through the ‘next steps.’ Where will the monster go next? What will happen in the future? I still couldn't hate the little fellow, instead I just laughed at his cuteness and his total obliviousness to all that happened around him. Though at times you could see he knew what he was doing. Anyway, despite my son's immaturity for Nibbles - or rather his too risky closeness to and absolutely predictable adoration of the toothy little rascal, I happen to enjoy reading this book myself every so often. It is both a simple joy and an inspiration, which never fails to bring a smile to my face.monstruo comelibros ha mordido las páginas de este álbum hasta escaparse de él... ¡Y ya ha empezado a zamparse otros cuentos! ¡Mucho cuidado con él!

The Nibbles books are adorable, interactive picture book stories by talented author/ illustrator Emma Yarlett. Never heard of Nibbles the book monster? We need to fix this right now! Here’s where you can find everything Nibbles: I also have to give extra credit to the book cover. Normally books are paper and feel cold/hard on the touch, but not this one. It has texture, but also seems to not been made from paper but from fabric. I love it when publisher/authors do something special to their books. Night Mayor Franklefink has vanished from the Transylvanian Express - and it's up to you to solve the case! Part of the Solve Your Own Mystery seri... Nibbles loves to nibble toes, and Nibbles nibbles hooks. But Nibbles' favourite thing of all to nibble on is . . . books!

I've read this book roughly 82 million times because it is a favorite in my house. We've actually had it for almost two years and despite having books overflowing our shelves and access to the entire county library full of books, this is one that keeps making it's way onto the "PLEASE READ THIS ONE MOMMY" list. Encourage the student’s creativity in naming their own book monster (for those that have the capability I also ask them to come up with a name that begins with the letter N). This newest book is the simplest out of the three, but pairs wonderfully with many preschool units. For this week we are using it for our “N” week. If you are new to my postings, I teach a literacy Pre-K class that highlights a new letter of the week each week. All our activities and curriculum are based on that letter. The class is meant to expose Pre-K students to literacy and foster a love for reading. Nibbles The Book Monster: Literacy Activity Outcomes
