Description

The pleasant tang of vinegar is nicely balanced with a sprinkling of real serrano chile powder, offering a touch of heat and plenty of earthiness to these crunchy chips. In fact, these were actually our favorite salt and vinegar potato chips in the flavor department, as after the taste tests were said and done, these were the chips we wanted to keep munching on. In our search for the best kettle cooked chips, it worked out all too perfectly that we found Kettle Brand Chips to do the style the best justice. They bear the name, and boy did they ever earn it! We found these to have superior crunch and a lovely golden coloring, as a good kettle cooked chip should. The salt and vinegar concept is a new flavor for this company, but the fact that these chips are both certified vegan and non-GMO verified are facts that have been around since the initial Terra chips were launched nearly 20 years ago. Need even more goodness? Terra proudly supports the Seed Saver Exchange Program, a non-profit which works to preserve the beautifully diverse world of heirloom fruit and vegetable varieties!

Sea salted flavour popchips in particular have 6.5 syns in for a 28g serving, making them quite high in syns, so should only be eaten in moderation on the slimming world plan. All things in moderation though we say, and if you choose to indulge your salt and vinegar tooth (hey, we have one too!) just exercise good portion control. What Goes Good With Salt and Vinegar Chips? Some salt and vinegar chips include complementary spices and seasonings while others don’t even qualify as a potato chip. As you’re about to find out, there are salt and vinegar veggies chips, protein chips, and even tortilla chips out there! Salt and Vinegar Chip Brands: The Test Subjects And just what you don’t want to hear about these extra costly chips is that they are extra sensitive as well. Since they’re made from dehydrated animal protein, they are more sensitive to moisture than the usual potato-based chip options and the bag advises you to consume them within 14 days of opening. They are structurally fragile as well, and we sadly found lots of broken pieces in the bottom of our bag. Pros:

We found the salty flavor of these chips to be well balanced by the acidic components--in this case a mixture of malic acid and vinegar--and that these chips somehow had a more savory, potato-y taste than many of the other varieties we tasted. Sadly, these chips were broken into many little pieces by the time they made their way onto our taste test table and boy, oh boy, are those broken edges sharp! We also had a tough time scoring a bag of these in the first place, and after searching several locations, finally found them at Whole Foods. The vinegar flavor may be achieved by any of several acidic ingredients such citric acid, malic acid, sodium diacetate, or powdered versions of distilled white vinegar and apple cider vinegar. There actually weren’t many things we didn’t like about these chips, as they were delicious, well-crafted, and excellently presented through and through! The only thing worth noting is that of course that spicy-sweet serrano powder may not be to everyone’s tastes, and that the spice level varies a bit from one chip to the next. Pros: However, although popchips can be high in syns depending on the serving and flavour, they are the healthier option in comparison to standard crips, as they are popped rather than fried, cutting down the fat content of the chips.
